Job Summary:

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences welcomes applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor of Teacher Education. The Department of Teacher Education seeks multiple Adjunct Instructors to teach courses during the upcoming academic year. Programs within the department include Childhood/Students with Disabilities Education and Adolescent/Students with Disabilities Education. Positions at the undergraduate and graduate levels are available. Available courses include both daytime as well as evening time slots.

Minimum Qualifications:

A relevant master’s degree is required for the position; school experience is also desired. In particular, we seek instructors with the following areas of expertise: Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Content Area Methods, and STEM Education. 

All courses will be taught using a combination of on-ground and online methods, with synchronous components. Strong technology skills are necessary. Instructors should have familiarity with learning management systems or a willingness to learn skills for effective online, hybrid, or blended instruction. 

Essential Functions:

The Adjunct Instructor of Teacher Education will be guided by a syllabus set for the course. Selected finalists will be responsible for delivering content, assessing learning, and maintaining active communication with students.

About the Department and School:

The Education Department is a member of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences along with departments for psychology, criminal justice, and social work. The Education Department offers a variety of teacher preparation programs including: (1) elementary education, grades 1-6, with dual certification for students with disabilities (2) a birth through second grade teacher certification, and (3) 7 - 12 grade certification in seven content areas (English, math, social studies, biology, chemistry, Spanish, and French) also with dual certification for students with disabilities.  The department offers a 5-year program to the elementary/students with disabilities candidates that results in an MA in Educational Psychology. Our adolescence education program is offered only in a 5-year format, and provides graduates with the coursework to complete certification in their content area for grades 7-12, special education certification, and as Master of Arts in Teaching.
