Job Summary:

Marist College invites applications for the position of Counselor in the Office of Accommodations & Accessibility. The Counselor is responsible for assessing needs of students with disabilities in areas of personal and academic adjustment, coordinating the delivery of services that include personal, academic and career counseling, facilitating necessary and appropriate academic accommodations, and designing and implementing programming for students with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work or related area with training or experience in working with persons with disabilities. Experience in evaluating disability documentation, determining eligibility and generating a plan for the provision of services and accommodations, in collaboration with students, faculty and staff is desired. Knowledge of Section 504, amended ADA regulations and other relevant laws pertaining to disability in higher education required. Experience with diverse populations is preferred. Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills required.  Must have the ability to work independently without close supervision, work collaboratively as a team member, multi-task, and work in a fast pace environment where urgent situations often arise. Must have proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Banner and other office-based software.     

Essential Functions:

  • Works with students on the Trio Grant and Accommodations roster
  • Advises students regarding academic and career interests, personal issues
  • Works with faculty to clarify students’ needs in the classroom
  • With Director, assesses the eligibility of students for Program participation; evaluates need for services and accommodations
  • Reviews, verifies and interprets disability documentation
  • Determine appropriate accommodations for students by intake interview and documentation
  • Recommends reasonable accommodations for course work, examinations, and campus life
  • Coordinate with all campus offices for referrals
  • Designs and implements disability-related programming and training activities throughout campus
  • Other duties assigned
