Job Summary:

Marist College invites applications for the position of Access Specialist. The Access Specialist provides personal, equipment, and real property security for faculty, staff, students, and visitors on the College campus.  This position supports and provides expertise to Security, IT and Physical Plant by maintaining, improving and installing access control measures. The selected candidate will understand, investigate and stay current in order to research and provide guidance on solutions associated with all aspects of access control and technology utilized by Safety and Security.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, which may be supplements by related certifications, technical school or related training
  • Valid Driver’s License with no serious convictions
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude suitable for learning and understanding the basics of locksmithing
  • Demonstrated ability to implement, troubleshoot and repair integrated security technologies
  • Availability to work various shifts and overtime as needed
  • Availability to respond to after-hour emergencies

Essential Functions:

  • Function as the Lead locksmith in cutting, replacing and maintaining keys and cores, as well as maintaining and auditing keys
  • Maintain an appropriate and discernable key-way for the entire campus
  • Analyze and provide reports on irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations to the Director
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Provide strong student focused customer service, and function professionally in a diverse, multicultural community, undertaking related tasks as deemed appropriate by Security management
  • Maintain, address and respond to all electronic access control issues
  • Understand the operation of all access control, CCTV and recording technology currently utilized, as well as any future technology utilized for access control (swipe, RFID, biometric)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to operate computer and related software associated with the assignment
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Conform to duties detailed in the Security Officer Manual and other duties deemed necessary by the department policies.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and support all access control technology
  • A strong service orientation and demonstrated ability to work in a diverse, multicultural community. With particular focus on relationships with Information Technology and Physical Plant
  • Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel
  • Knowledge of, and experience working with, the following integrated security technologies: access control systems, alarm monitoring systems, facility management systems, security records management systems, CCTV, IP video, Intelligent Video, video storage and archiving, command/control display technologies, and general security system principles and practices
  • Good working understanding of technical infrastructure and integration technologies to include power, UPS, networking, communications, data center systems, etc.
  • Familiarity with IT networks, to include WAN, LAN, firewall, network switch technologies and video transmission on IP networks
