Job Summary:

Marist College invites applications for the new position of Outreach Coordinator. Under the general supervision of the Director of Equity and Title IX Coordinator, the Outreach Coordinator will work to support the College’s programs and compliance in Title IX, Title VII, Clery Act, VAWA, ADA, ADEA, NYS Education Law Sec. 129 (a) and (b), FERPA, HIPAA, and other state and federal laws pertaining to gender-based violence and discrimination in a higher education setting.

The Coordinator collaborates with staff, faculty, students, off-campus services partners, and the law enforcement agency to develop and provide a comprehensive educational plan for the campus community to prevent and address sexual violence, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual harassment and stalking. In addition, to primary prevention, this position coordinates training, risk-reduction and awareness campaigns.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 1 year of full-time professional experience, in developing evidence-based programs and outreach.
  • The successful candidate will possess strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, along with demonstrated ability to deliver training and education for varying constituents having a range of diverse backgrounds, interests, and perspectives.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the issues of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking, as well as knowledge on effective practices related to sexual assault and dating violence prevention education.
  • Must possess a collaborative style with regard to outreach and campus programming for students, faculty and staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations on discrimination, harassment, and retaliation as they relate to Title IX, Title VII, the Clery Act, VAWA, Campus SaVE Act, ADA/Section 504, ADEA, and NYS Education Law Article 129 A and B is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working on a college campus or educational environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with campus and community partners to implement priority outreach efforts, including evidence-based, campus-wide campaigns and programs to address sex and gender-based misconduct and harassment including sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking.
  • Partner with Student Affairs and other campus stakeholders to enhance, create and implement programs that aim to reduce risk, including, but not limited to bystander intervention, the Red Zone, alcohol and drugs, consent, communication, healthy relationships, etc.
  • Facilitate access to campus and community resources for survivors of sex and gender-based misconduct and harassment, including resources for students from traditionally underrepresented groups.
  • Provide training to student groups including Residence Life, Student Athletes, Student Government Leaders, Orientation Leaders, ROTC, focused on response to gender and sexual violence, as well as, violence prevention and bystander intervention.
  • Recruit and help to train students who can serve as advocates to their peers in a Title IX process and who can offer programs and support based on student demand.
  • Prepare and disseminate outreach materials, including brochures, posters, newsletters, reporting information, web-based materials, etc. to inform students, faculty, and staff of Title IX rights and responsibilities.
  • Maintain Title IX office social media accounts, and other outreach efforts.
  • Provide comprehensive and culturally competent work that is inclusive and responds to the needs of a diverse campus, including traditionally underrepresented populations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Equity and Title IX Coordinator or his/her designee.

About the Department and School:

Members of the college community, guests, and visitors have the right to be free from sexual violence and any form of gender-based discrimination prohibited by Title IX. While there are a number of laws and regulations that mandate how colleges and universities handle allegations of sexual misconduct and assault, the College ultimately has the discretion to determine whether or not the policy has been violated and impose appropriate sanctions for infractions through the Office of Human Resources and Title IX team. The College aims to prevent and respond to sexual assault, dating/intimate partner/domestic violence, stalking, and sexual harassment through prevention training, collaboration, outreach, and advocacy.

Please note: The primary work location for this position is Poughkeepsie, NY. Local, on-campus work in Poughkeepsie, NY will be required as a condition of employment.

Relocation: It is College policy to reimburse eligible newly hired full-time administrative staff members for reasonable expenses incurred in relocating to the area. To be eligible for reimbursement, new employees must move a minimum of 50 miles from their present home; must move within the first year of hire. Generally, the College will reimburse eligible moving and relocating expenses up to $7,000.
