Job Summary:

The School of Science at Marist College is pleased to invite applications for a full-time Professional Lecturer of Medical Technology starting Fall 2023. The Medical Technology Department’s academic mission is immeasurably enriched by an inclusive community in which diverse perspectives are respected and valued. Lecturers are fully integrated into the life of the department and are expected to advise students and contribute to service. This is a one-year term appointment with expectation of renewal based on satisfactory performance. Term faculty at Marist are also eligible for advancement in rank after specified time periods. Expertise in Hematology and the ability to teach an introductory course in Medical Technology required. Experience in undergraduate education is preferred. Responsibilities include teaching 12 contact hours per week, including lecture and lab; overseeing clinical rotations, and college service. Service would include: holding office hours outside of class, keeping curriculum current, committee work, and participating in accreditation. Transition into department/program leadership at appropriate time is expected.

The successful candidate will join a well-established (30+ years) program that is NAACLS accredited (most recently in 2019) and focused on providing an excellent education for students seeking careers in the medical laboratory sciences. They will also work closely with students, clinical affiliate faculty, and on-campus faculty. Prior teaching experience is desirable; however, candidates with promise and enthusiasm for becoming a skilled teacher are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist is required. A Master’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or closely related field is also required.

Significant experience as a bench technologist, including experience in hematology.

Enthusiasm for teaching undergraduates and evidence of excellent teaching or potential to develop into an excellent teacher.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, organize, and instruct assigned courses to promote student success
  • Take part in continuing education
  • Maintain office hours to provide assistance to students and communication with administration
  • Provide academic advising to students in the School of Science
  • Perform service to department, school, college, and community as necessary

Preferred Qualifications:

A doctorate in an appropriate field, and teaching experience at the community college level or higher is preferred. Experience in clinical education or translational medicine research is a plus.

The Medical Technology Department is located in the Allied Health Building, a 58,000 ft2 facility constructed in 2016 for biology and allied health graduate and undergraduate programs. It features modern laboratories and facilities in addition to updated instrumentation for teaching and research.
