Job Summary:

The Senior Director of Institutional Reputation and Internal Communications is a new role that will help lead strategic planning as well as tactical execution for a variety of internal communications and public relations programs at Marist College. Reporting directly to the College’s VP of Communications and Marketing, the individual in this role will help create an engaged and informed campus community, while also leading several key PR and thought leadership programs to elevate Marist College’s reputation as a nationally distinctive institution. The Sr. Director will collaborate with Marist executives and stakeholders to develop clear and focused messaging, build new communications programs to help grow the College’s brand and advance its strategic plan, and work alongside the Director of Media Relations to cultivate earned media opportunities for local, regional and national visibility. This role will work closely with the VP of Communications and Marketing to assist with the overall management and execution of the College’s strategic communications and marketing plan. We’re looking for an individual who loves to write, is a strategic thinker and innovator, and who likes to roll up their sleeves and work closely with their teammates to get work done.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of related work experience in public relations, corporate communications, journalism, and/or internal communications.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; this role has a heavy writing workload.
  • Superb editing to support clear ideas.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Experience presenting ideas and providing counsel to senior executives.
  • Self-starter who thrives in matrixed environments and adapts easily to change.
  • Able to work under pressure quickly, effectively and efficiently with tight deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, business or a related field.

Essential Functions:

  • Strong writing ability a must – including memos, speech writing, OpEds/bylines, executive communications.
  • Experience building and executing an internal communications strategy, including creative ways for institutional leaders to engage and inform employees and content strategies for the college intranet.
  • Experience building and executing executive thought leadership programs, including speaking opportunities, social media strategy, and authoring thought leadership pieces.
  • Ability to turn around writing assignments under tight deadlines when urgent issues arise.
  • Distill complex issues into simple to understand communications.
  • Work with senior executives and campus leaders develop clear messaging on institutional priorities and announcements to drive communication effectiveness and engagement.
  • Bring a positive, can-do approach to your work, inspiring others to be their best and valuing diverse perspectives to inform projects large and small.
  • Ability to provide clear, candid counsel and recommendations to the VP of Communications and Marketing and help manage the department’s strategic marketing communications plan.
  • Ability to conduct general research to inform and strengthen speeches, thought leadership pieces and public communications.
  • Strategic thinking that links day-to-day communications activities to a broader institutional vision and searches for opportunities to try innovative, new communications approaches.
  • Collaborative leadership style that pulls people together around a common vision/cause and is able to build consensus from differing points of view.

The Office of College Marketing and Communication has a primary focus to build national awareness of Marist and contribute to the growth of new student enrollment.
