Job Summary:

The School of Science at Marist College is pleased to invite applications for a Full-Time Biology Laboratory Coordinator to ensure the effective functioning of Biology Department teaching laboratories. The Marist Biology Department is characterized by a strong sense of community in which students are the central focus and faculty and staff are accessible and approachable.

The Biology Lab Coordinator will be responsible for inventory control of lab supplies, lab set up and break down, training and supervising student assistants, orienting faculty on lab exercises, and teaching one section of General Biology lab per academic year.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Biology or related field

Essential Functions:

  • Lead weekly coordination meetings with instructors & student lab assistants to ensure that labs are running effectively and efficiently.
  • Make sure necessary supplies and equipment are available and regularly supply the General Biology, Microbiology, and all other biology teaching lab spaces.
  • Be responsible for setup and breakdown of laboratory experiments, monitoring and restocking of supplies as necessary.
  • Assist biology faculty with recruiting and hiring of student lab assistants.
  • Supervise, train, and oversee timesheet completion for student assistants, including lab assistants and those hired to prepare media and reagents.
  • Teach one lab section per year of General Biology I or General Biology II in alternating years or as needed.
  • Ensure correct storage of supplies, maintain supplies for lab courses, and replenish stocks of reagents, solutions, and consumables, and consolidate instructors' lab orders and submit to Lab Manager for ordering.
  • Maintain laboratory safety standards.
  • Perform summer cleaning and organization of labs and maintain equipment (e.g., defrost freezers, check pH probes, check pipette calibration, etc,).
  • Create and maintain shareable sites to organize and disseminate faculty-generated assignments, lab documents and other materials to all instructors in general biology and other multi-section courses as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Biology or related field

    • Typical eligibility requirements: 1 year of service and 1,000 hours with Marist College.
  • 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity – Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution.
  • Tuition Benefits:
    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • College pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

*Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may apply at the discretion of the College.
