Job Summary:

The Department of English in the School of Liberal Arts at Marist College invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor of English to begin in August 2019. The Department of English seeks applicants who are able to teach our foundational writing courses and introductory literature courses. All classes are at the undergraduate level.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in English, Writing, or a closely related field required; Doctorate or ABD preferred. Previous successful college-level teaching experience is required.

Essential Functions:

For applicants with writing pedagogy experience, the Department of English seeks faculty to teach Writing for College, the required research and argumentative writing course offered at Marist College. There may also be periodic openings for faculty able to teach Introduction to Professional Writing or Introduction to Creative Writing.

For applicants with literature experience, The Department of English seeks instructors to teach a variety of literature courses in our Core/Liberal Studies general education requirement sequence. These courses include: American Literature, English Literature, Literature and Gender, Classics of Western Literature, and others. 

Successful candidates may teach three to nine semester credit hours each semester. Teaching may occur during both the fall and spring semesters.

The English Department at Marist College includes 17 faculty and offers a BA in English with concentrations in literature, writing, and theatre.  The department also offers popular minors in creative writing, professional writing, and theatre.  The English Department is housed in the School of Liberal Arts, which includes departments in history, modern languages, philosophy & religious studies, and political science.
