Job Summary:

The Fashion Program at Marist College seeks candidates for the position of Director, Fashion Program.  The College seeks a dynamic, collaborative expert in Fashion Design and Merchandising with a strong network and connections across the industry specifically in New York City to utilize the College’s new Executive Center at 420 5th Avenue.  

As Director of the Fashion Program, the candidate will possess a programmatic vision and ability to direct operations effectively while collaborating with faculty colleagues, administration and students in the program. 

The Director reports to the Dean of the School of Communication and the Arts and will partner together on developing and sustaining external industry partnerships that foster student career opportunities, elevate the reputation of the program and develop new revenue sources for the Fashion Program.  The Director will also partner with the Dean on the strategic vision for the program including student opportunities for experiential learning, technology/innovation, and social responsibility including sustainability.  The successful candidate will possess a profound commitment to education, an aptitude for inclusive teaching and mentorship within an increasingly diverse student body.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8-10 years of relevant experience required.
  • Ability to teach courses in Fashion Design and Merchandising.
  • Strong commitment to student-centered education.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with diverse students and colleagues.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with the Dean, Faculty and Students to create a strategic plan and vision for the Fashion Program.
  • Foster meaningful relationships with C-suite fashion industry executives and key stake holders to deepen ties within the industry and create opportunities for students and the program.
  • Establish long-range goals for external partnerships to create revenue and elevate the national and international reputation of the program.
  • Serve as the ambassador for the Fashion Program on-campus and externally at national and international academic and industry events and conferences.
  • Capture and share fashion market intelligence to inform key stakeholders including the Dean and faculty of key trends for consideration in the program curriculum. 
  • Expand the program’s industry network including alumni of Marist and non-alumni to create connections for current students and post-graduation.
  • Partner with College Advancement to confirm corporate sponsorships of the new Steel Plant Studios building on campus.
  • Collaborate with College Marketing and Communications to showcase and elevate promotional materials for the program.
  • Raise alumni engagement, student awards and recognition, sponsored programs and in-kind donations to elevate the reputation of the program.
  • Engage with the Fashion Advisory Board on meaningful Fashion Program initiatives.
  • Teach two Fashion Program courses per academic year.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of executive level experience
  • Evidence of successful teaching
  • Understanding of higher education
  • Contact with industry leaders and ability to expand partnerships
