Job Summary:

The Marist College Health and Wellness Center seeks a Nurse Manager to provide leadership and oversight for the nursing staff of Health Services. They will have a primary emphasis on administrative tasks such as staff credentialing, scheduling and inventory management and will also have the opportunity for direct patient care with patient triage, ambulatory coverage as needed, patient education and care coordination.  This position will be responsible for the training, supervision and evaluation of the nursing staff. In addition, the Nurse Manager will work closely with key departments on campus to review required health information for incoming students to ensure compliance. They will also be engaged in quality improvement initiatives within the department.  The Nurse Manager will act as a resource for nursing care in Health Services. They must exemplify the highest level of nursing assessment while demonstrating excellent communication, customer service, supervisory skills and data management including immunization requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or BSN degree preferred along with 5 - 8 years of nursing experience, preferably in an ambulatory, adolescent or college health setting.  Minimum of 2 years of nursing leadership experience required (including direct supervision of clinical staff).  Current New York State Registered Nurse License required. BLS required, ACLS preferred.  Current NYS Infection Control certificate required.  Electronic Health Record experience required. Strong leadership and managerial skills required, along with high-level interpersonal communication skills. The ideal candidate will excel in a fast-paced environment while still providing high-quality care.  Must be an energetic, self-directed team player, committed to the mission of Marist College by promoting the health and wellness of the student body. 11-month position, beginning February 2020.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in the triage and scheduling of patients. Monitors scheduling trends to maximize office efficiency. Assists front desk staff in conflict resolution.
  • Manages supplies, creates inventory, and anticipates Health Center’s needs. Monitors cost / spending for medical supplies
  • Assists in the review of incoming health information. Assist departmental staff in outreach efforts to ensure compliance for NYS Immunization requirements.
  • Completes patient care requirements by scheduling and assigning nursing and staff; Fills in for floor nurses as needed in the provision of direct patient care.
  • Manages nursing staff education, training and evaluation.  Assists in the maintenance of credentials of nursing staff.  Designs and participates in Quality Improvement initiatives.  This may include auditing patient records.
  • Ensures strict HIPAA compliance.
  • Provides patient education and counseling regarding medication administration, health promotion and disease management. Assists in health education programming.
  • Develops and utilizes tools within the Electronic Medical Records system to improve efficiency of patient care; Coordinates and provides EMR education as it pertains to nursing staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Health Services is a high-volume office, serving 50 – 100 students per day. Health Services provides evaluation and treatment of common problems such as acute illness and minor injuries. Students are seen by appointment. Health Services’ staff interface with multiple offices, on and off campus, in the coordination of care, organization of student health information and delivery of health education on campus.
