Job Summary:

The Department of Information Technology welcomes applications for the position of Telecommunications Engineer. The Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, availability, and reliability of the enterprise telecommunications system and communications infrastructure. This includes the Cisco VoIP, Unified Messaging, and Web and Video Conferencing services to streamline how the Marist Community communicates and collaborates across various locations.  The Telecommunications Engineer will have the ability to make a reverberating impact as part of a team that is heavily involved in research and education, prototyping, management, and commercialization.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field is required. 5 – 8 years of experience in Telecommunications and/or Unified Communications is also required. The selected candidate must provide quality customer service to ensure that the end user’s requirements are carried out, and must able to provide creative solutions for unique issues.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the overall administration of the unified communications and collaboration (UCC), ensuring reliability and availability with minimum impact to the community.
  • Coordinate, review, and oversee all telecommunications moves, adds, and changes in Cisco VoIP phone systems. 
  • Provide problem resolution, performance management, and preventative maintenance of the UCC systems.
  • Maintain telephone call accounting and database systems. 
  • Develop recommendations for improving the UCC architecture and technology solutions that best meets the users’ business requirements.
  • For all approved UCC projects, develop a project plan of activities, milestones, and project timeline.
  • Design, develop, test, and support implementation of approved changes to the UCC architecture and technology.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical artifacts pertaining to the implementation, engineering, and optimization of the UCC architecture and services.
  • Support standards around Unified Communication integration with the focus on ease of use for end-users and high availability.
  • Manage the campus-wide communications infrastructure which includes the design and layout of fiber and copper in new construction and renovation projects. 
  • Evaluate and recommend next generation technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) that improves the end user experience.
  • Communicate proactively and effectively with users.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate telecommunications student technicians’ performance and overall productivity.

Preferred Qualifications:

Significant experience in designing, building, and operating Cisco Unified Communication Manager systems in a large production environment and a demonstration of strong understanding of related technologies is highly desirable. Project Management experience is also preferred.
