Job Summary:

The Program of Physician Assistant Studies invites applications for the position of Coordinator of Clinical Education - Student Assessment. This role is primarily responsible for monitoring student progress in meeting rotation and program objectives throughout the clinical year. 

In addition, the Coordinator of Clinical Education - Student Assessment participates in activities that promote the stature of the Physician Assistant Program and Marist College and abide by the mandates set by the ARC-PA, the Program Director, the Dean, and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

The Coordinator of Clinical Education - Student Assessment is a faculty appointment with duties to be performed on a twelve-month/year-round basis. The successful candidate must maintain individual records of their clinical practice and/or professional advancement and contribution which must be communicated with the Program Director and updated annually.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree; New York State license; NCCPA certification or equivalent.

Essential Functions:

Student Assessment:

  • Prepare and update syllabi and learning objectives for courses in the clinical phase of the program.
  • Provide on-site evaluation of students in clinical rotations, including assessment of student progress toward meeting rotation-specific objectives and level of mastery of curriculum competencies.  
  • Monitor individual student progress during the clinical year.
  • Oversee “call back” sessions during the clinical year
    • Including:
      • Develop learning objectives and patient scenarios for Objective Standardized Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).
      • Train and manage standardized patients.
      • Set learning goals and coordinate guest lectures
      • Schedule agendas 
  • Monitor benchmarks for standardized PAEA end-of rotation exams and revise as needed.
  • Ensure appropriate administration of end-of-rotation examinations and participate in the remediation process of students when required.
  • Facilitate the registration process of clinical year courses for students during the clinical year.
  • Review the Clinical Year Manual annually and revise as needed.
  • Co-coordinate annual “clinical year orientation”.
  • Maintain availability to clinical year students regarding their performance during the clinical rotations. 

Other Duties:

  • Collaborate with the Coordinator of Clinical Education (site maintenance), with whom they bear responsibility for the entire clinical year.
  • Assist the Coordinator of Clinical Education (site maintenance) in site acquisition.
  • Assume the duties of the Coordinator of Clinical Education (site maintenance) in their absence.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor for students.
  • Participate in PA Program and College-wide committee(s).
  • Participate in the duties necessary for program maintenance of accreditation.
  • Foster student achievement, persistence and success.
  • Proactively work with students who are at risk of not performing to their potential.
  • Assure that programmatic institutional effectiveness and student learning outcomes assessment is conducted and that the results of the assessment lead to meaningful instructional development.
  • Other responsibilities as determined by the Program Director.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctoral degree; Three years administrative and/or teaching experience in a university system; Experience in a simulation laboratory.
