Job Summary:

The Athletics Department at Marist College invites applications for the full-time, 12-month position of Assistant Women’s Rowing Coach. This position will report to the Director of Rowing/Head Women’s Rowing Coach. Marist College is an NCAA Division I program and member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Assistant Women’s Rowing Coach is responsible for assisting the program with special emphasis on the recruitment of Division I caliber student-athletes, both on and off campus. These duties include conducting daily on and off water practices and training of novice student-athletes safely and efficiently. The Assistant Women’s Rowing Coach is involved in all other aspects of a Division I women’s rowing program including but not limited to coaching, administration and alumni relations, and other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Rowing within the rules and regulations of the NCAA, Marist College and the MAAC.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; minimum of 1-3 years’ experience with collegiate recruiting, both on and off campus; strong leadership skills, highly motivated and energetic; excellent organizational, oral and written communication and public relations skills; and the ability to work enthusiastically with student-athletes and coaches of both the men’s and women’s teams and administrators. Strong knowledge of NCAA, MAAC and Marist College rules and regulations. Certification in CPR, first aid and AED will be required along with passing the NCAA recruiting exam.   

Essential Functions:

  • Recruit athletes to Marist College by attending scholastic regattas, camps and clinics, and high school practices to observe prospective student athletes; Prepare and coordinating the recruiting calendar and accommodations in accordance with the NCAA, MAAC and institution regulations
  • Coordinate and executing official and unofficial visits to campus for prospective student-athletes and their families
  • Provide mentoring to student athletes inside and outside of practice on their academic, personal, civic, and career aspirations for the future
  • Assist the Head Coach in developing an effective training plan for practices and competitions for both the team and individual student-athletes: Formulating effective racing strategies for competition; Conducting individual and small group training sessions
  • Conduct comprehensive film review from practices and races; Preparing daily team practice plan

Preferred Qualifications:

1-3 years of coaching experience in rowing is strongly preferred; collegiate rower and/or coxswain experience preferred.
