Job Summary:

The Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) helps to create and cultivate a welcoming and inclusive living and learning environment for students studying at the Marist Branch Campus in Florence, Italy. The RLC is the first point of contact for students in residence, providing guidance and support. The RLC works alongside fellow staff assisting in all aspects of student life and program delivery both in- and outside of the residence. The RLC supports students’ physical, social, and emotional needs, provides insight to life in Italy, supports students in cultural adjustment, upholds Marist policy, and helps to foster the skills necessary to thrive in a new, inter-cultural environment. Reporting to the Director of Housing on the Marist home campus in NY with a dotted line to the Director of Marist Italy in Florence, the RLC is responsible for the daily administration and operation of a residence supporting both undergraduate and graduate students. This is a one-year, full-time, live-in position.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have an EU passport or permission to work in Italy.
  • Bachelor's degree and prior experience working with and supporting US college students.
  • The ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Flexibility, intercultural nuance, creativity, detail, tolerance for ambiguity, problem-solving skills.
  • Enthusiasm for International Education and the mission of the College.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide direct support for residents and serve as the primary administrator for all aspects of residential life.
  • Support student pre-departure, arrival, orientation, and departure.
  • Foster community and good relations with all students in the residence.
  • Supervise student health and safety to provide 24/7 residential coverage, including on-call emergency duty in rotation with team members.
  • Guide students in day-to-day residential operations such as reporting maintenance problems, roommate conflicts, etc.
  • Enforce policies by informing and educating residents, responding to violations with fairness and consistency.
  • Work with the Office of Student Conduct and other College staff to report, document, and manage policy violations and disciplinary matters in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Be accessible and available to students in the residence, creating an approachable atmosphere of mutual respect.
  • Monitor and report maintenance problems and follow-up.  
  • Oversee and assist the Residence Hall Council.
  • Conduct wellness checks on residents.
  • Conduct maintenance and non-maintenance walkthroughs, including monitoring and maintaining College standards.
  • Help train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistant (student) staff.
  • Chaperone student excursions within Italy and possibly other EU countries.
  • Plan and manage the end of semester donation drive in collaboration with local charities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in International Education or other relevant field.
  • Residential life experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior study abroad or equivalent international experience.
  • Italian language skills preferred.
  • Working knowledge of experiential educational principles.
  • The RLC must be friendly, approachable, patient, and have a strong work ethic.
  • Wide knowledge of Florence and Italy required.
  • The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, flexible, and collaborative colleague and team member with a clear commitment to working with students and to developing and supporting the strongest possible international and intercultural programs.
