Job Summary:

The Marist College Office of Human Resources welcomes applications for the position of Employee Relations Specialist. This person will join a dynamic team and is responsible for serving as a primary liaison along with the Director of Employee Relations to staff and faculty at the College. In addition, the Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for assisting in the administration of labor relations policies as well as provide support to departments to ensure compliance with personnel rules and procedures, network policies, contractual agreements, labor and employment laws, etc. This position is eligible for benefits and paid time off.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of relevant experience.

Thorough knowledge of the general principles and practices and procedures of modern labor relations, such as mediation, fact-finding, arbitration, contract administration, and interpretation and contract negotiation.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare reports, collect data, develop summaries, and reports status of Employee Relations matters to the Director of Employee Relations
  • Responsible for policy administration, development, and updates due to changes in legal requirements
  • Support immigration matters
  • Manage job description review and approvals
  • Develop and conduct hiring manager training
  • Serves as Hearing Officer for grievances
  • Oversee preparation for union negotiations and creation of collective bargaining agreements
  • Other relevant duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to use sound judgement and discretion in handling sensitive human resources issues with confidentiality and discretion
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Must have demonstrated ability in organizational, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Must be adaptable, dependable, with the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to take copious notes and transcribe/prepare documents on the fly
  • Strong computer experience including MS Office suite products i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint
