Job Summary:

The School of Science at Marist College is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Biology, beginning August 2023. The Biology Department’s academic mission is immeasurably enriched by an inclusive community in which diverse perspectives are respected and valued. Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field
  • Enthusiasm for teaching undergraduates and evidence of excellent teaching or potential to develop into an excellent teacher
  • Desire and ability to develop an active research program involving undergraduates
  • Strong interest and potential for seeking externally funded research grants

Essential Functions:

The Biology Department seeks faculty committed to undergraduate teaching excellence at a comprehensive liberal arts institution that supports both liberal arts and professional programs. The successful candidate should have expertise in botany and the ability to teach courses such as Plant Biology with lab, General Biology lectures and/or labs, and a senior-level Biology Capping course. The ability to teach Genetics would be an asset but is not required. The candidate may also teach courses that support the College Core (general education) Curriculum. Teaching responsibilities include 9 and 12 contact hours per week in alternating semesters. Prior teaching experience is desirable; however, candidates with promise and enthusiasm for becoming a skilled teacher are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates must develop and maintain a robust research program involving undergraduates. Strong preference will be given to candidates who are able to obtain external research funding. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Service to the College and beyond is also required. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field and a strong interest in evidence-based undergraduate science education.

The Biology Department is located in the Allied Health Building, a 58,000 ft2 facility constructed in 2016 for Biology and allied health graduate and undergraduate programs.
