Job Summary:

Come join the established team at the Marist College PA Program, where you can leverage your experience to train the next generation of high-quality PAs. We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented medical educator to join us at our state-of-the-art Allied Health Building as Principal Faculty Member & Assistant Director. The ideal candidate will join a team of hardworking individuals dedicated to developing competent, compassionate, and culturally sensitive PAs.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced educator and emerging leader who is able to assist the program director in the oversight of all program operations, assist the clinical and didactic faculty, and implement new strategies to promote student success.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to work independently and collaboratively. They will be able to promote a positive and engaging environment and be capable of leading multiple projects. They should demonstrate interest and experience leading, engaging, and supporting diverse populations including faculty members, administrators, healthcare partners, students, alumni, and other stakeholders.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Faculty members should be comfortable speaking publicly, and comfortable navigating technology. The overall roles and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the director with ensuring compliance with ARC-PA standards
  • Oversee a comprehensive remediation program and engage directly with struggling students
  • Assisting clinical team with clinical site acquisition, maintenance, and assessment
  • Assisting the didactic team with curriculum development
  • Overseeing the summative examination
  • Assisting with program related activities and events including orientation for new or transitioning cohorts
  • Overseeing inter-professional activities across graduate programs
  • Participating in analysis and assessment of program outcomes
  • Acting as a mentor to full and part time faculty members
  • Assessing evaluation instruments (i.e., rubrics, examination, assignments, practical exams, simulation)
  • Participating in program committees
  • Participating in the development, review, and revision to the mission statement, goals, and program competencies
  • Providing input into the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the curriculum and program-related activities
  • Providing instruction in the PA Program in areas of clinical/professional expertise
  • Providing effective management and leadership
  • Possessing strong communication skills and proactive problem-solving
  • Acting as a liaison with the administration, if indicated
  • Assuming the role of Interim Program Director in the case of a vacancy of the Program Director
  • Participating in service activities at the Program, School, and College level
  • Providing high-quality work demonstrating initiative, innovation, professionalism, and significant attention to detail

Minimum Qualifications:

Physician Assistant/Associate

Master’s Degree

Eligible for New York State license

Current or emeritus NCCPA certification

3 or more years of clinical experience

2 or more years full-time higher education experience in a medical or PA program

Essential Functions:

  • Teach two courses in the clinical & didactic curriculum
  • Assess clinical sites, students, and preceptors
  • Design and implement a graduate-student remediation task force
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of the curriculum
  • Participate in curriculum mapping
  • Proctor examinations
  • Serve as a chair for one program committee
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of applicants as a member of the Program’s admission committee.
  • Participates in reaccreditation and program evaluation activities as determined by the Program Director. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Participating in the assessment process\
    • Analyzing course data
    • Preparing accreditation documents prior to ARC-PA site visits
    • Participating in ARC-PA site visits
  • Participate in program events including:
    • Program/College workshops & retreats
    • Annual program events
    • Admissions events
    • Clinical call back daysSummative examinations
  • Participate in college-wide events (i.e. commencement, assessment day)
  • Advise clinical and didactic students
  • Hold office hours in accordance with Marist College policy
  • Foster student achievement and success
  • Promote a culture of equity and inclusion
  • Demonstrate commitment to Marist College and the program’s mission, vision, and values
  • Other responsibilities as determined by the Program Director

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with remediation of medical learners

Experience with clinical and didactic education

Experience with medical simulation

Five or more years of clinical experience

Three or more years full-time higher education experience in a medical or PA program

About the Department/School:

The Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program is a 24-month, full-time program designed to prepare students for clinical practice. The program consists of one 12-month didactic phase and one 12-month clinical phase. In this format, students are prepared to treat patients:

  • In all environments: in-patient, out-patient, operating room, emergency room, and more
  • At all life stages: from newborn to end-of-life
  • With technical skills: from suturing to counseling
  • In innovative ways, like at our Point of Care Ultrasound Clinical Elective Rotation
  • Globally: the program emphasizes global health practices and caring for the underserved, from Indian Health Services to local clinics
