Job Summary:

The School of Science at Marist College is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Biology, beginning August 2025. The Biology Department’s academic mission is immeasurably enriched by an inclusive community in which diverse perspectives are respected and valued. The Biology Department seeks faculty committed to undergraduate teaching excellence at a comprehensive liberal arts institution that supports both liberal arts and professional programs. The successful candidate should have expertise in developmental biology, neuroscience, genetics, and/or bioinformatics. They should have the ability to teach an upper-level course in their area of expertise as well as courses such as Genetics with lab, General Biology lectures and/or labs, and a senior-level Biology Capping course. The candidate may also teach courses that support the College Core (general education) Curriculum.  Teaching responsibilities include 9 and 12 contact hours per week in alternating semesters. Prior teaching experience is desirable; however, candidates with promise and enthusiasm for becoming a skilled teacher are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates must develop and maintain a robust research program involving undergraduates. Strong preference will be given to candidates who are able to obtain external research funding. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Service to the College and beyond is also required. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field
  • Enthusiasm for teaching undergraduates and evidence of excellent teaching or potential to develop into an excellent teacher
  • Desire and ability to develop an active research program involving undergraduates
  • Strong interest in evidence-based undergraduate science education
  • Strong interest and potential for seeking externally funded research grants

Essential Functions:

Teach upper-level undergraduate course in area of expertise, teach in the introductory General Biology sequence, and the Biology Capping course for the Biology Department as needed, with a load of 9 and 12 contact hours per week in alternating semesters. Establish and maintain a research program involving undergraduates, preferably obtaining external research funding. Engage in service to the Biology Department, School of Science, and College as a whole, with academic advising of students beginning following the first year in the position.

    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • College pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

*Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may apply at the discretion of the College.

The Biology Department is located in the Allied Health Building, a 58,000 ft2 facility constructed in 2016 for Biology and allied health graduate and undergraduate programs.
