Internship Coordinator and Lecturer of Crime and Justice Studies

Job Summary:

The crime and justice studies department in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Marist University invites applications for the Internship Coordinator and Lecturer of Crime and Justice Studies to begin the fall of 2025.

This position places all crime and justice studies (CJS) majors at internship sites and serves as the liaison with all site supervisors. They will monitor all students registered for sections of internship (CRJU 496-499) and will determine grades of Pass or No Credit at the end of each semester. They provide orientation for students, and supervisors as needed, and ensure that contracts have been secured with appropriate supervisors. They work to develop new internship opportunities for our students.

The position carries a 24-credit course load with a 50% reduction for the administrative responsibilities associated with internships.  The remaining 50% (12 credits per academic year) will be dedicated to teaching two courses per semester in the CJS department.

Minimum Qualifications:

A master’s degree in a related field.

Essential Functions:

  • Reviewing weekly journal entries of all CJS interns
  • Assessing whether or not students earn credit for internships
  • Attending required department, School, and University meetings
  • Revising and updating the CJS internship website
  • Providing workshops each semester that prepare students to register for and obtain internships
  • Teaching courses in the CJS department
  • Academic advising of students
  • Participation in campus service/committee work

Preferred Qualifications:

A doctoral degree in a related field.

Experience in higher education including advising and instructing students.

    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • University pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

About the Department/School:

The crime and justice studies department is home to 7 full-time faculty as well as several valued part-time faculty. The department members have expertise in many domains and work together to create a rich curricular experience for students that includes theory, research, and applied internships. This department is one of four departments in the School; the others are psychology, social work & sociology, and all the teacher education programs.

The CJS department and the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences are committed to advancing a diverse, equitable and inclusive climate. The School has taken leadership in several social justice initiatives, including Creating an Inclusive Community dialogues, the Marist Center for Social Justice Research, and the Marist University Diversity Leadership Institute.

In the fall of 2024, the School opened its doors to the new Dyson Center with state-of-the art facilities. Specific to CJS, there is a classroom that converts to a mock courtroom and a dedicated CJS lab.
