Job Summary:
|
Deliver and process all of the incoming and outgoing mail packages from USPS, UPS, Fed Ex, etc. for the college community, including pick-up, sorting, and preparation. Work is usually performed independently in accordance with well defined procedures.
Physical Effort & Work Environment
This position involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions including extreme cold and heat, and regular enclosure in a vehicle. The work requires regular operation of a motor vehicle. The work area involves moderate discomfort and/or risk such as that from moving machinery, occasional work with hazardous substances, or moderate levels of noise. The work may require wearing protective gear. The work area is generally adequately lit and ventilated but may involve uncomfortable temperatures at times. Work involves moderate and strenuous physical exertion including standing, walking, climbing, pulling, bending, twisting, and regular lifting and carrying of objects up to and often over 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:
|
The ideal candidate should be a High School Graduate, possess 1-3 years progressively responsible secretarial/clerical work or any combination of training, experience and have an education sufficient to indicate an ability to do the work.

Essential Functions:
|
- Regular operation of a motor vehicle, delivering bulk packages and mailings to campus offices and USPS locations in Poughkeepsie and Newburgh
- Receive and organize shipments from delivery vendors USPS, UPS, Fed Ex, etc.
- Utilize shipping software programs (SC Logic/Facilities OS, Pitney Bowes sendpro) to ship, receive and deliver packages and for shipping packages and processing mail for both desktop software and mobile unites.
- Operate high-speed mailing equipment such as postage machines, printers, etc
- Possess knowledge of US Shipping Regulations and pricing
- Oversee and run Post Office in the absence of the manager
- Possess intimate knowledge of entire institution

Demonstrate a physical condition adequate for lifting heavy packages

Perform other job-related duties as required

The Marist Post Office is not a contract station operated by the U.S Postal Service, but we must follow many of the regulations of the U.S. Postal Service when processing our mail.
