Job Summary:

Provide direct nursing care to students of Marist University, for preventive and sick visits, in collaboration with the medical team. Support other care providers in the Health Services department. This position is a 9-month position, with work performed to coincide with the Marist University academic year, from late August to late May.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate Degree in Nursing; Current New York State Registered Nurse License required. Current ACLS or BLS certification. Must have three years nursing experience, preferably in college health, primary care, urgent care or adolescent health care, as well as knowledge of physical assessment.  Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform direct nursing care for students in Health Services, to include but not limited to obtaining clinical history of students’ concerns, measuring vital signs, performing physical exams, collecting specimens for testing (throat/nasal swabs, urine, blood, etc), performing onsite testing, administering medication as directed (oral, injection, nebulizer), etc.
  • Triage students’ medical needs, evaluate medical condition in terms of urgency and acuity, further facilitate medical evaluation/consultation and administer basic first aid and limited emergency care (for anaphylaxis, opioid overdose, hypoglycemia, etc).
  • Perform clinical assessments and provide appropriate clinical care recommendations within the RN scope of care.
  • Provide immunizations within the scope of care of Marist Health Services.
  • Comply with all lab procedures and requirements, including specimen processing and transport, lab insurance requirements, order and requisition entry, results review and tracking, and on-site lab testing.
  • Utilize the electronic medical record for clinical documentation and communication with the goal of 100% accuracy.
  • Participate in outreach, educational and University support events, occasionally held on weekends and after regular business hours.
  • Participate in indirect patient care, inventory, order and maintain supplies and medical equipment, communicate directly with suppliers, labs, pharmacies regarding office needs.
  • Communicate with local hospitals and community health providers for transfer of medical information, scheduling of medical appointments (consults, imaging studies, etc).
  • Support office coordinators and clerical staff.
  • Train, support and supervise other clinical support staff, including per-diem RN staff, various healthcare professions students, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors of Science in Nursing.  Experience working in a University Health environment.  Competency in Microsoft Office suite of products:  Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • University pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.
