Job Summary:

Marist University seeks two new Directors of Academic Advising, one situated within the School of Science and another within the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. These Directors are student-centered leaders and collaborative members of the administrative team within their academic schools, grounded in current best practices in academic advising and student success. Reporting to the school Assistant Dean as well as the Executive Director of Academic Advising, the Directors support students across all majors in their academic growth and skill development with particular emphasis on the first-year experience. Through the design and assessment of programs and services, the Directors will advance each School's strategic academic goals while maintaining alignment with institutional policies and curriculum standards. The Directors will also coordinate cross-departmental initiatives and sustain active partnerships with the Registrar, Office of Accommodations and Accessibility, Athletics, Student Affairs, and Office of International Programs, as well as across academic schools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field required.
  • Experience with Student Informational Systems (SIS) such as Banner and Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook required.
  • 3 to 5 year's experience in professional academic advising, academic support services, or related field required.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work independently, and professionally required.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the primary academic advisor for first-year students in the School of Science or School of Social & Behavioral Sciences providing personalized and accessible academic advising to a diverse student population. Maintain an open calendar for individual advising meetings and academic planning sessions while guiding students through course selection, degree requirements, academic planning, and strategies for overcoming academic challenges.
  • Develop and implement advising resources in collaboration with the Center for Advising and Academic Services, including Academic Success Plans, advising materials, workshops, and presentations that support individual student growth and retention.
  • Monitor and assess student academic progress, identifying at-risk students early and proactively connecting them with appropriate resources, interventions, and support services.
  • Address student well-being holistically by collaborating with the School's advising team and relevant stakeholders to respond to academic concerns, personal development needs, and issues affecting student success.
  • Partner with School faculty and administrators to continuously evaluate and improve advising services, policies, and practices, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and evolving student needs.
  • Design, implement, and assess School-wide programs and initiatives that promote academic success, student engagement, and skill development, using data-driven outcomes to inform strategic planning and continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Slate or related student success CRM technology.

  • Tuition Benefits:
    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • University pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

The Center for Advising & Academic Services (CAAS) is dedicated to helping students develop skills required to demonstrate academic success while developing the advising structure required to support our faculty and staff advisors. The School of Science combines scientific principles with practice through the application of knowledge, scientific literacy, and research. Students interested in the natural, physical, and health sciences have access to top facilities, as well as opportunities for internships, clinical rotations, and hands-on research. Working with dedicated faculty members, students gain the skills required to obtain prestigious awards, placement in top graduate schools, and careers in leading companies. All of our majors are required to complete internships. The faculty are leaders in their field supervising student research that is presented at conferences and creating engaging curriculum in the classroom.
