Salary/Pay Rate:

$1,250 per 1 credit with upward adjustment for years of service at Marist University. Pay may vary depending on credits pertaining to online, graduate, music, or lab courses.

Job Summary:

The Marist University English Department is looking for qualified part-time faculty to teach undergraduate courses in English for the 2025-2026 academic year. We have a particular need for faculty who can teach our foundational writing courses, and introductory level literature, professional writing, and theatre courses. All classes are at the undergraduate level and are offered in-person at the Marist campus in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in English, Writing, Theatre, or a closely related field required; Doctorate or ABD preferred. Previous successful college-level teaching experience is required.

Essential Functions:

For applicants with writing pedagogy experience, we are looking primarily for instructors to teach Writing for College, our required research and argumentative writing course. We may have periodic openings for faculty able to teach Introduction to Professional Writing or Introduction to Creative Writing.

For applicants with literature experience, we are looking for instructors to teach a variety of literature courses in our Core/Liberal Studies general education requirement sequence. These courses include: Classics of Western Literature, World Literature, and other thematic courses such as Medicine and Literature.   

For applicants with theatre experience, we may have availability for our Introduction to Theatre course, which also serves as a Core Public Presentation course.

Successful candidates may teach three to nine semester credit hours each semester. Teaching may occur during both the fall and spring semesters.

The English Department at Marist University includes 17 faculty and offers a BA in English with concentrations in literature, writing, and theatre.  The department also offers popular minors in creative writing, professional writing, and theatre.  The English Department is housed in the School of Liberal Arts, which includes departments in history, modern languages, philosophy & religious studies, and political science.
