The Admission Counselor position at Marist University is a dynamic, entry-level position that focuses on the engagement and recruitment of prospective students. The Admission Counselor is primarily responsible for speaking to prospective students and their families about Marist through in-person and virtual high school visits, college fairs, information sessions and campus visits. They review applications to the University and engage in active participation in yield activities to ensure the enrollment of an exceedingly talented and diverse class. This position also includes an opportunity to travel to key high schools in an assigned territory and to interact with students, parents, high school counselors, and alumni.
The Admission Counselor conducts information sessions on campus and virtually, confers with admitted students/families, and contributes to the success of numerous visitation/recruitment programs. They will also have collegial interaction with several internal University offices and external partners. This course serves as an introduction to normal and pathological development and function of the nervous system throughout the lifespan. It serves to familiarize the student with neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, basic neuroscience and evidence-based practice literature. Emphasis is placed on the application of neuroscience in regards to sensation, movement, motor learning, perception and cognition as typically seen in physical therapy practice. Nervous system components including the spinal cord, brainstem, cerebrum and the auditory, visual and vestibular systems are reviewed. In lab activities, an introduction to the neurological assessment is integrated with clinical cases to provide practical, patient-oriented application of the course material.
