Job Summary:

The Department of Crime & Justice Studies invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Crime & Justice Studies position beginning Fall 2025.

Applicants should be flexible with regard to teaching assignments and confident in their abilities to teach courses within their areas of expertise as well as required core courses such as Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminology, Research Methods, and Senior Seminar. We are interested in broadening our offerings and welcome a variety of areas of specialization such as emergency management, homeland security, or restorative justice. Our faculty places an emphasis on high quality and inclusive teaching in small classroom settings. We seek equity-minded faculty who are intentional in their practices to represent multiple perspectives.

We are excited to announce the opening this fall (2024) of the fully renovated Dyson building which houses the mock courtroom and a dedicated Crime & Justice Studies lab outfitted to support research in a variety of areas in CJS.

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in a related field by fall 2025

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching undergraduate courses
  • Faculty advisor to students in the CJS program
  • Attend department, School, and faculty plenary meetings
  • Active research agenda

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience teaching at the college level
  • Experience supporting student research

    • Typical eligibility requirements: 1 year of service and 1,000 hours with Marist College.
  • 403(b) Tax Deferred Annuity – Roth option available. Voluntary, up to IRS maximum contribution.
  • Tuition Benefits:
    • Up to 16 undergraduate credits per semester. Up to 18 graduate credit per academic calendar. Eligibility extends to employee, spouse, and dependent children under age 26.
    • College pays 100% tuition only.
    • Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

*Eligibility requirements including waiting periods and/or employee probationary periods may apply at the discretion of the College.

About the Department/School:

The Crime & Justice Studies department is housed in the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences along with three other areas: Psychology, Teacher Education, and Social Work. CJS and SW recently developed a dual major in Crime & Justice Studies and Social Work. We offer graduate programs as follows: MA School Psychology; MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Master of Arts in Teaching; and Master of Education, Contemporary Curriculum and Instruction.

The Criminal Justice Department and the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences are committed to advancing a diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning environment.
