This course serves as an introduction to normal and pathological development and function of the nervous system throughout the lifespan. It serves to familiarize the student with neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, basic neuroscience and evidence-based practice literature. Emphasis is placed on the application of neuroscience in regards to sensation, movement, motor learning, perception and cognition as typically seen in physical therapy practice. Nervous system components including the spinal cord, brainstem, cerebrum and the auditory, visual and vestibular systems are reviewed. In lab activities, an introduction to the neurological assessment is integrated with clinical cases to provide practical, patient-oriented application of the course material.

The Marist University online MSW program launched successfully in June 2025 and is currently under review by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The program has completed Benchmark 2 and is awaiting action by the Board of Accreditation (BOA), with plans to advance to Benchmark 3.
Practicum Liaisons play a vital role in supporting students, field/practicum supervisors, and program faculty during this critical phase of program development and accreditation.
The Part-Time Practicum Liaison carries a 6-credit workload each semester, typically distributed across the fall (6 credits) and spring semesters (6 credits), and is assigned to a specific student cohort (either the Two-Year cohort or the Specialized/Advanced Standing cohort). Liaison works collaboratively with the Practicum Education Coordinator and program leadership to ensure high-quality, trauma-informed, and competency-based practicum learning experiences aligned with CSWE Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards.
Most responsibilities are conducted in a virtual format and include maintaining regular contact with students and practicum supervisors, supporting professional development and ethical practice, assessing student progress in practicum, and contributing to supervisor training initiatives.
